When there are mice problems in your house or garage, you want to get rid of them. Some do want them out, but want to do so with more humane methods versus ones that cause the mouse to suffer for extended periods of time. What makes a humane mouse trap more humane?
There actually isn't a standard definition for a humane mouse trap. Typically it's thought that a trap that kills to do so within 10 seconds or less with very limited pain for it to be called a humane trap. There are some styles of traps to consider.
The first are catch and release traps. These can be considered to be more humane since they don't kill but at times they do with neglect. If the mouse is trapped and left alone, they end up starving which is worse than a trap that doesn't kill near instantly since it's a slow and painful process to not have food. These need to be responsibly checked on daily if releasing is your goal.
Other types of traps are electric ones that have near instant kills. Traditional traps like glue traps or snap traps can take awhile to actually kill the pest. Snap traps can be instant at times but also can break bones in the mouse and leave it to suffer. There are electric traps that will quickly and efficiently kill the mouse preventing unnecessary pain and struggle.
When purchasing a trap, consider what actually happens. If there is a chance for prolonged suffering, it's a good trap to avoid.
